The Silverton 402 Motor Yacht
is a good looking aft-cabin yacht whose moderate price made her a fairly
popular model during her production years. She was built on a
solid fiberglass modified-V hull with generous beam and a shallow
keel. Her two-stateroom, galley-down floorplan is a model of efficiency
with double berths in both staterooms, a full-size dinette,
a big U-shaped galley, and a roomy salon with a built-in sofa and
entertainment center. A serving counter overlooks the galley, and
wrap around cabin windows add to the impression of space in the
salon. The engineroom accessed from hatches
in the salon is a tight fit, and storage space is at a premium. The
aft deck came with a wet bar and hardtop, and molded steps lead
from the aft deck to the swim platform where a storage locker and
transom shower were standard. Additional features include a well designed
centerline flybridge helm, aft deck wet bar, radar mast,
and wide side decks. A stiff ride in a chop, twin 8.2L MPI 380hp gas engines
cruise the Silverton 402 at 14 knots and reach a top speed in the low 20s.
